CHICAGO -- At a time when Chicago police officers and law enforcement across the country are under a lot of pressure, it can be easy to miss all of the heroic things they do.
Chicago police and firefighters were honored today at City Hall for their bravery.
Two of those recognized responded to a gunman who shot and seriously wounded his girlfriend. The man allegedly charged at them with a gun, and they shot and killed him.
As for the CFD, Capt. Michael Spencer was honored for rescuing an unconscious man from a burning building in portage park.
Families of the firefighters and policemen and women were also on hand to honor their loved ones, along with the mayor and top police and fire commanders.
