MARKHAM, Ill. -- A brawl outside a south suburban nightclub ended with one man shot to death by police.
State investigators are now trying to determine if that shooting was justified.
Donte Jones’ family says they’re hearing so many different reports, mainly on television, about what happened the morning he was killed, but they’re not hearing from police.
Jones' family members said all they want is to talk to the police and see whatever video there is of the 36-year-old being shot.
Jones, a father of four, died early Sunday morning after a fight broke out at The Stadium night club at 163rd St. and Dixie Highway.
Police say the fight spilled out into the parking lot of the club. Witnesses and police say Jones pointed a gun at officers, they told him to put it down and when he didn’t, police shot him.
The Stadium club is notorious for it’s violence. There have been nine shootings since the club opened in 2009. Two of them were fatal.
Petitions have been circulated by residents to shut it down.
Jones’ mother is asking the village to do the same.
Police say they recovered a weapon at the scene.
Charges are pending against another person who was arrested Sunday morning.
State police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.
The officer involved is on modified duty.
