* It’s been a LONG time, 120 years to be exact, since the Cubs had a winning percentage higher than it is this season (.778) against the Pirates (last matched in 2008). The Cubs 14-4 record was bettered only in 1896 (11-1) and 1890 (17-3).

* Rob Zastryzny is scheduled to make his starting pitching debut for the Cubs tonight. Zastryzny would be fifth Cubs starting pitcher in history whose last name started with the letter “Z”, and the first to do so since Carlos Zambrano in 2011. Yesterday’s Cubs starting pitcher was Jake Arrieta. This marks the first time Chicago went from “A” to “Z” in its starting pitchers since 1915 when Karl Adams and Zip Zabel went back-to-back on August 15 and 17 (with an off day on August 16).

* Since joining the Pirates at the trade deadline, Ivan Nova has 47 strikeouts and only three walks.

* Four years after losing 100 games (61-101 in 2012), the Cubs have won 100 games in 2016 (101-57). Chicago is just the third team in MLB history to win 100 games within four seasons after losing 100 games (’69 Mets, ’95 Indians).
