New Jersey woman uses couponing to feed 30,000 people in need

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. —  A woman in New Jersey is using couponing in a big way to feed people in her community who are in need.

Lauren Puryear, 29, is a mental health clinician and has been spending years helping to feed the hungry. Her ultimate goal? Deliver 30,000 meals to people in need by her 30th birthday, NJ.com reports.

In 2012, Puryear started For The Love of Others, which aims to assist people of all backgrounds “through providing opportunities to enable them to live a purposeful life,” according to its website.

Once she learned about the power of couponing, Puryear took her efforts to a whole new level.

“I started couponing for food items like spaghetti, meatballs, and I was (often) able to get the items for free or for little to no money,” she told NJ.com

If Puryear coupons correctly, she said she can fed up to 150 people on just $20, depending on the items. As of now, she has delivered 5,000 meals and is very confident she will reach her goal by her next birthday.
