Sky star Delle Donne undergoing surgery on right thumb, playoff status unknown

CHICAGO – The Sky clinched a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year Sunday, defeating the Connecticut Sun 96-86.

It was a huge victory for the organization, but it may be overshadowed by an even bigger loss.

The team announced today that Elena Delle Donne, last year’s WNBA MVP, will be undergoing surgery Tuesday with no set timetable to return.

Delle Donne didn’t play in Sunday’s playoff clincher after injuring her right thumb against the Washington Mystics last Wednesday night.

Prior to that game, Delle Donne was averaging just over 21 points and 7 rebounds.
