CHICAGO -- It's a push to end violence through the game of basketball.

"Battle of the Blocks" began on Tuesday morning, and runs through Saturday in Englewood.

The street basketball tournament has been taking place for nine years.

Pastor P. L. Thomas of New Canaan Land MB Church is behind the event. He says people need to come together, and feel love and respect.

Besides basketball, the program also requires working on reading for one hour each day.
