3-year-old boy shot in Woodlawn neighborhood

CHICAGO -- A 3-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound as he sat in a vehicle in the Woodlawn neighborhood Sunday night, according to police.

Police say the child was injured just after 6 p.m.  around the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue when another vehicle pulled alongside the car he was sitting in and fired shots.

Police are investigating the incident and say they don't have anyone in custody at this time.

The toddler was transported by car to University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

His mother told reporters he's expected to survive.
