CHICAGO -- The owner of a performing arts studio on the city's Southwest Side was shot during a confrontation with a gunman late Thursday night.

Alejandro "Jano" Fuentes, 45, was celebrating his birthday with friends when they left the Tras Bambalinas School at 4330 S. Archer in the Brighton Park neighborhood.

Just after 10 p.m., Fuentes was in his red Audi convertible when he was approached by a gunman who ordered him out of the car.

Fuentes refused and he was shot in the head multiple times, according to friends.

The gunman, whom friends did not recognize, ran off and got into a waiting car and fled.

Fuentes remains on life support.

Fuentes is known in the city as a talented singer and actor from Guadalajara,  who was a 2011 finalist on Mexico’s version of “The Voice” and had a weekly show on Radio Vive.

Police do not have any suspects in custody, and they have not revealed if the incident was an attempted carjacking or robbery.
