Where to get free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day
CHICAGO — If you have a sweet tooth, go ahead and rejoice — today is National Doughnut Day.
The day was started by the Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938 as a fundraiser.
It honors the group’s “Doughnut Lassies,” who made fresh doughnuts for American soldiers during World War I.
Jumping on the marketing bandwagon, doughnut shops and chains across the U.S. are offering free donuts or a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage.

Dunkin’ Donuts — Get a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any drink.
Krispy Kreme — The sweet shop is handing out free doughnuts, whether you buy something or not. They will also be accepting donations for The Salvation Army in red kettles nationwide.
Stan’s Donuts and Coffee — Get a free glazed doughnut with any beverage or gelato purchase.
Cumberland Farms — Snag a free doughnut when you buy any coffee or “Chill Zone” drink.
