The shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday near 89th and Exchange in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Police say Lavinder was sitting in the front seat of a car when a white sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots.

Lavinder was shot in the chest, and he was driven to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody.

Lavinder's mother tells WGN he was not a gang banger and was a respectable boy. She says he respected everyone.

"I'm so tired of Chicago. I'm tired of all this killing," his mother cried.
