CHICAGO  — A high school freshman who was one of six people shot and killed in Chicago over the Memorial Day holiday weekend is remembered on Tuesday.

15 year-old Veronica Lopez was honored at North-Grand High School in Cicero. Her mother was on hand for the emotional tribute.

Lopez was in a car with two men on Saturday morning when gunfire rang out from another vehicle. Police believe it was over either a gang dispute or road rage.

Nearly 70 people were also wounded over the holiday weekend.

During the holiday weekend last year, 55 people were shot, and 12 were killed.
