CHICAGO -- On a hillside in Grant Park, just below the Logan Monument, is a true testament to sacrifice: so many rows of tiny American flags.

Chris DePhillips from Chicago Welcomes Home the Heroes, along with the Chicago Cultural Mile Association, came up with the temporary memorial as a way to say thank you to those who have served.

Planting these one by one, it takes hours to do. The solemn tribute is carefully planned, to honor those lost in war -- but not forgotten.

The Logan Monument in Grant Park will be filled with flags for tomorrow's Memorial Day wreath laying and rededication ceremony.

Tomorrow's ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
