CHICAGO, Ill. -- Yvonne Nelson, 49, became another innocent victim of gun violence in Chicago on Friday.
Stephen Lewis was Nelson’s neighbor in Bronzeville. He’s taking care of her dog, Max, while her family deals with the unthinkable.
Friday afternoon, after work, Nelson, a 311 dispatcher stopped at the Starbucks at 35th and State, just blocks away from Chicago Police Headquarters. She was walking out of the coffee shop when she was fatally shot in the chest. A man –who police say- was the “intended target” was seriously injured in the shooting.
Today, outside the Starbucks there is a small memorial. Neighbors say Nelson was quiet, and sweet and always willing to help.
Chicago Police officials say their investigation continues and the are still searching for the shooter.
