SULTAN, Wash. -- At age 80, Barb Moles is an elderly great grandmother, but she's certainly not helpless.

"I'm not just really the typical granny - in case you haven't noticed!" Moles said.

Last week, Moles shot and killed a man who broke into her home and beat her husband with a crowbar.

The burglar was identified as 25-year-old Steven Sheppard.

Police in Sultan, Washington believe Sheppard was a stranger intending to burglarize the home of two innocent senior citizens. He didn't count on being confronted, let alone shot.

Moles says, "You know, never in my whole life did I ever anticipate having to take another life - especially at age 80. Give me a break here!"

But she says she would do it all over again. She believes that she and her son might be dead if she hadn't defended her home.

Her husband is in intensive care, but he is expected to survive.
