CHICAGO — A warning to drivers with a lead foot: police cars may soon be harder to spot, thanks to some new lighting.

Ford has designed a new low-profile LED light bar. It’s sneakier than the traditional roof-mounted police lights.

The light bar is installed inside the car near the sun visors — so they’re hard to spot until they’re turned on.

When activated, it flashes alternating red and blue bars through the top of the windshield. It can also be programmed for red/red or blue/blue operation, according to the company’s website.

Plus they come with an auto-dimming feature.

The new low-profile lights are available only in the Ford Police Interceptor SUV.

According to the company’s website, the new lights also aim to improve the drivers’ visibility.
