CHICAGO -- The search continues for at least one armed robber who got into a shootout with an off duty Chicago police officer after an attempted robbery.

The 49-year-old officer  continues to recover in the hospital.  He is expected to be ok.  He was sitting in a parked car in the 10100 block of South Green St around 2:30 Monday morning when two armed men walked up and announced a robbery.  The officer reached for his gun, and both parties exchanged fire.

The officer was hit in the leg.

One of the robbers was struck as well.  He checked himself in to Little Company of Mary Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was released from the hospital this afternoon and is being questioned at Area South police station.
