Friends, family gather to remember boy who accidentally shot self

CHICAGO -- Friends and family gathered Monday night to remember a 7-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself from a gun he got from his 10-year-old brother.

Devohn Lofton was a 1st grader and he died at Children's Hospital Sunday about a half hour after being he was rushed there from his home in the 6700 block of South Aberdeen.

Devohn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and according to a police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.  The boy’s 10-year-old brother brought the 22 caliber handgun into the house.  Where he got it is still under investigation.

Police have interviewed the boy’s brother and are tracing the gun's origin.

According to the Chicago Tribune the boys’ grandmother was home at the time and family members insisted the gun does not belong to any adult who lives there and they did not recognize the weapon.
