CHICAGO - For once, Illinois football is the talk of the college landscape for a positive reason.
While it's never good to fire a coach, the release of Bill Cubit from his duties leading the Illini has led to an intriguing candidate for the job in Champaign: Lovie Smith.
The former Bears coach is the leading candidate for the job according to multiple reports and could be named as Cubit's replacement this week. It would be a bold move for new athletic director Josh Whitman who is looking to put his immediate stamp on the program.
Matt Lindner of Red Eye came on Sports Feed on Sunday to discuss this possibility with Jarrett Payton at length. To watch Matt discuss this with Jarrett, click on the video above.
