GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Comedian Micah “Katt” Williams was arrested in Georgia on Monday in connection with an assault, according to authorities.

A spokesman with the Gainesville Police Department said police were called to a pool supply store, where they found Williams lying on the ground outside.

He had his hands behind his back as though he was waiting and ready to be arrested, Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

A store employee told police he and Williams had gotten into a verbal fight, and that Williams threw something at him and punched him.

Williams was taken into custody without incident and charged with battery, Holbrook told CNN in an email.

He is being held in jail on a $5,000 bond, the spokesman said.

The incident came a day after Williams had closed out a performance in Atlanta calling comedian Kevin Hart a “puppet.”

“I’ve already proven that if the best they got in comedy is Kevin Hart — don’t you boo a black man working hard, baby,” Katt told his audience, who began booing, according to multiple reports. “Even if that (expletive is) a puppet, it’s not his fault. We don’t get mad. Just because I’m better than some black dudes, doesn’t mean I’m better than no black dudes. I’m saying if you want to be mad at Kermit The Frog, don’t be mad at Kermit The Frog, be mad at Jim Henson. Don’t say, ‘(Expletive) Donald Duck’ when you really mean, ‘(Expletive) Walt Disney.”

Hart, who was at the Academy Awards Sunday night, appeared to take the high road while also sending a veiled shot at Williams on Instagram the next day. The comedian and actor posted a shot to social media on Monday of him standing next to Dave Chappelle and Oscars host Chris Rock with a caption that read, in part:

True professionals understand the importance of sticking together & supporting one another….at the end of the day we are comedians & there aren’t many that make it to level that we have made it … it’s about helping one another not trying to tear each other down!!!!
