CTU threatens to strike as early as April 1
CHICAGO — The Chicago Teachers Union is threatening to strike as early as April 1st.
Chicago Public Schools laid off 62 employees Monday, including 17 teachers, as part of a cost-cutting effort; but what upsets the union it a CPS threat to cancel its annual union pension contribution.
The union says cutting off the contribution effectively cuts teacher pay by 7 percent.
A city attorney argues that state law doesn’t allow the union to strike until at least mid-May.
