CHICAGO — Several families in the Chicago area welcomed Leap Day babies Monday.

Scarlett Nelson was born Monday at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Since Feb. 29 only comes once every four years, mom Nicole Allard told the Chicago Tribune she’s not sure if she’ll celebrate Scarlett’s birthday on Feb. 28 or March 1.

“It gives us an excuse to have a big birthday party every four years,” Allard said.

According to the Southtown Star, hospitals in Chicago’s southern suburbs also welcomed several “Leaplings.” Fourteen babies were born at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and three babies were born at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Congratulations to all the families who welcomed Leap Day babies!
