MESA, Ariz. -- Cubs owner Tom Ricketts fielded questions from the media for the first time this spring.

He was asked about that Donald Trump tweet, calling out his family for spending money against the Republican presidential candidate.

“It’s a little surreal when Donald Trump threatens your mom,” Ricketts said. He added that he and his family “stand up for what we believe in.”

It had previously been reported that Marlene Ricketts, the wife of T.D. Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts, gave $3 million to Our Principles PAC, which has been airing ads against Trump and sending out mailers ahead of states' primaries.

Trump sent out a tweet Monday that read, “I hear the Rickets family, who own the Chicago Cubs, are secretly spending $'s against me. They better be careful, they have a lot to hide!
