Forum held to discuss Chicago’s next police superintendent

CHICAGO -- At Kennedy King City College on Tuesday was a well-attended public forum. At issue: the selection of Chicago's next superintendent after the forced resignation of Garry McCarthy.

A common theme among those here is the feeling that community input will not be taken seriously by the police board or Mayor Emanuel.

Earlier today we heard from the family of Esua Castallanos concerning another police-involved shooting.

Castallanos was shot and killed by police in March of 2013. The family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit as the FBI, U.S. Attorney’s office and Cook County State’s Attorney investigate. The family's attorney says the officers have lied since the get-go.

The interim superintendent John Escalante placed the officers on 30 days leave under the department’s new rules only last week
