CHICAGO– Snow is set to hit the metro area Saturday afternoon and night ahead of the coldest air mass in 11 months.
The latest computer models coming into agreement are favoring the southeast sections of the viewing area into northwest Indiana where six or more inches is possible.
As you travel farther west, the amounts will drop off significantly with 1” or less expected.
Along with the fresh covering of snow will be gusty northerly winds which could pass 40 mph at times causing areas of blowing and drifting.
Behind the snow, temperatures will fall into the teens by Sunday afternoon and in combination with biting northwest winds, dangerous wind chills of -10 degrees or colder can be expected, the coldest air to sweep into the Chicago area since last February.
