CHICAGO – Threats of an attack have shut down New Year's Eve activities in Brussels, and London police have canceled officers' vacations to help keep the party there safe. Here in Chicago, organizers of the city's first outdoor celebration Chi-Town Rising say they have a solid security plan.

The stage is set just across the river at the Hyatt. Organizers expect around 10,000 people in and around the area for the celebration, and they are confident their security plan will keep people safe.

This the first ever event like this for Chicago. Organizers say they have been working with a private security team as well as with the Chicago Police Department to make sure it's a safe event.  Thousands are expected to watch a 70-foot star rise to the top of the Hyatt to ring in the New Year, as well as the entertainment, and it will all be done under the watchful eye of security.

The producer of Thursday's event also said Chicago police have a good track record when it comes to keeping people safe during large events; he mentioned NATO a few years back, and most recently, the NFL Draft.
