CHICAGO — Hundreds of workers at Coca-Cola’s two Chicago-area plants walked off the job earlier this morning.

300 Teamsters Local 727 members are going on strike to protest unfair labor practices including delay tactics and intimidation as the two sides try to work out a new contract.

Local 727 represents 319 production and warehouse workers and transport drivers at Coca-Cola Refreshments facilities in Niles and Alsip, Ill.

Coca-Cola released a statement a short while ago saying, in part, “The Union leadership chose misleading rhetoric and false attacks instead of finding common ground. We hope to reach a resolution in the near future and will continue to negotiate in good faith with union leadership.”
