KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Investigators in Kansas City say they suspect a father fed his 7-year-old son to pigs after beating him to death.

According to KCTV, Michael Jones, 44, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery and child abuse. But the man’s bond is set for $10 million, higher than most murders, the station notes.

KCTV reports police arrived at the home Wednesday after a report of Jones attacking his wife and firing a gun at her.

Reports KCTV:

As the investigation progressed, someone told them to check for the decomposed body of a missing 7-year-old boy. By the next day, they were searching a barn on the property where they discovered human remains.

Two women who said they cared for the family’s children told KCTV the living conditions were deplorable, despite the house being valued at $225,000. They fear the remains may be those of the boy, who is one of Jones’ eight children who lived at the home.

A source told the station investigators fear the remains are the result of the child being fed to pigs after being beaten to death. Both women said Jones added livestock to the home’s barn this fall.

The remains have not been identified.
