Mother of slain boy, 9: ‘Please, put the guns down’

CHICAGO -- The mother of a slain child held a news conference Tuesday after her boy was gunned down Monday on the city's South Side.

Tyshawn Lee, 9, was killed Monday in the Gresham neighborhood after being shot multiple times.

"Please put the guns down," his mother, Karla Lee, said Tuesday. "I'm only 26 years old; this is my only baby," she said with tears in her eyes during a brief press conference. She held up a picture of her son as she spoke.
