Rogers Park man faces arson charges

CHICAGO – A man from Rogers Park faces arson charges after allegedly trying to burn down his 39-unit apartment building early Thursday morning.

Police say 52-year-old Thomas Gatch was caught on security camera lighting a paper bag on fire and putting it in the building stairway.  This was in the 6800 block of North Ashland.

The fire damaged the stairway, carpet and molding.  About 60 people lived in the building.
