CHICAGO -- Hundreds of runners came out to the lakefront Sunday morning to raise awareness about domestic violence.

The money raised today will go to helping a group of abuse victims that is often overlooked.

More than three hundred people gathered near Montrose Harbor in Uptown for the annual Apna Ghar Making Strides 5k run/walk.

Apna Ghar is  the Hindi-Urdu word for "our home"

The group caters to immigrant communities, where --because of cultural and language barriers -- domestic violence can often go unnoticed and unreported.

Apna Ghar was founded in 1989, with government grants and local donations.

Now it's fundraising events  like this 5k that will keep the group up and running into the future.
