Motorcyclist charged in fatal Lake Shore Drive crash

CHICAGO - A 20-year-old man has been charged in the death of a German woman on Lake Shore Drive.

Charles Lyons is charged with one felony count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and one felony county of aggravated reckless driving resulting in bodily harm.

The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19th.

Police say Lyons drove his motorcycle through a red stoplight at the intersection of Balbo and Lake Shore Drive, hitting a man and a woman who were using the crosswalk.

The 40-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

The 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Cook County medical examiner's office says Katrin Kutscheidt died of multiple blunt-force injuries. Kutscheidt was from Germany.

Lyons received numerous citations. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Lyons is expected to appear in bond court on Saturday.
