First Lady christens Navy submarine

GROTON, Conn. — First Lady Michelle Obama christened a new Navy submarine named after her home state.

The USS Illinois is a nearly $3 billion vessel that can carry out a range of missions including anti-submarine warfare, delivery of special forces and surveillance.

Governor Bruce Rauner also attended the ceremony.

The submarine is scheduled for delivery to the Navy next year.
