CHICAGO – The Blackhawks trimmed their roster down to 25 today, leaving some big names off the list. Veteran winger Bryan Bickell was among them.

Bickell is being waived after spending 8 seasons with the Hawks. If he and his $4 million cap hit clear waivers, he could be assigned to Rockford along with newcomer Marko Dano.

Dano’s departure from the Hawks’ big league roster is also surprising. The 20-year-old was thought to be one of the key additions this season, coming over in the trade that sent Brandon Saad to Columbus.

The Blackhawks open the season next Wednesday at home against the New York Rangers.
