BOSTON — A district attorney says investigators are not ready to speculate on a motive or cause of death in the case of 2-year-old Bella Bond, whose mother and mother’s boyfriend were charged in the toddler’s murder.

Prosecutors authorized a murder charge for 35-year-old Michael McCarthy and the girl’s mother, 40-year-old Rachelle Bond, on Friday.

Bella Bond had been known as Baby Doe before authorities identified her nearly three months after her remains were found in a trash bag that washed up on a Boston Harbor beach.

Both Bond and McCarthy will be arraigned Monday.

Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said at a news conference Friday that there is no motive for the murder and no cause of death.

He said several people have offered to pay for the little girl’s burial.
