CHICAGO -- For the first time in America’s Cup's storied history, a regatta is coming to Chicago, Navy Pier and fresh water.

The stop in June of 2016 is part of the first stage of competition for the 2017 America’s Cup being held in Bermuda.

Local officials say the pier's recent upgrades and renovations, along with neighboring fields and parking lots, make it a perfect turnkey location.

Cup experts say the changing wind and weather will be a true test for the world's best sailors who will compete -- most of whom who have never sailed fresh water.
