MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University officials are apologizing for their marching band’s halftime routine during Saturday’s season opener.
During their game against South Dakota, the Kansas State band made a formation depicting the Starship Enterprise from “Star Trek” attacking a Kansas Jayhawk, the school’s biggest rival.
But the display of school spirit backfired when many thought the spaceship resembled male genitalia.
After social media lit up about performance, the band director and the president of the university apologized.
Frank Tracz, Kansas State’s Marching Band Director, released a statement saying the band’s formation wasn’t intended to be “anything other than the Enterprise and the Jayhawk in battle.”
Tracz ended his statement saying he did not mean to disrespect the University of Kansas.
