Ramp closings begin for major phase of Byrne Interchange project

CHICAGO --A major phase of the Byrne Interchange project for underway just before midnight Wednesday.

IDOT will be installing the steel beams for the new flyover ramp that will take the inbound Dan Ryan traffic to westbound I-290.

  • Just before midnight Wednesday, IDOT will close the ramp from IB Kennedy to EB Congress. It will remain shut down until Aug 31.
  • At 10 p.m.  Friday, Aug 21st, IDOT will close EB Congress/290 at the circle.
  • At 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug 22nd, IDOT will close WB 290 at the circle. Drivers will still be able to access the ramps to the Kennedy and the Dan Ryan.

All lanes will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday.

The same closures will take place the following weekend.

  • At 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug 22nd, both directions of the Kennedy and Dan Ryan (90/94) will be reduced to one lane between Ohio and 18th St. All lanes will be re-opened by 10 a.m. Sunday.
