CHICAGO -- A man is injured after being shot by police during a traffic stop in Chatham.

Officers pulled over a suspected stolen vehicle in the 7900 block of South King Drive just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

The driver put the car in reverse, hit another vehicle, then accelerated toward the officers, who were boxed in by the traffic stopped at a red light.

One of the officers fired two shots into the car, hitting the driver.

The driver was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police took the passenger of the vehicle into custody. They say he had a loaded gun in his waistband.
