CANTON, Ohio — The legendary linebacker Junior Seau was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame but not without controversy.
Seau, who took his own life three years ago, asked that his only daughter Sydney give his acceptance speech if he ever made it into the hall. But the hall doesn’t permit speeches on behalf of deceased inductees.
So Sydney Seau recorded her speech and the New York Times posted it on its website.
“I know at times it seemed as if everything you accomplished in life wasn’t enough, but today and every day since you held me in your arms for the first time, you weren’t just enough; you were more than enough. In fact, you were everything,” she said in her speech. You can watch her speech in its entirety in the player above.
Seau’s autopsy found that he suffered from a traumatic brain disease. His family argues it’s because the NFL didn’t protect its players.
