CHICAGO -- A Chicago police officer who's accused of driving drunk and hitting a woman will face a judge on Thursday.
40 year-old Erin Mowry was off duty at the time. He is accused of plowing into the 29 year-old woman as she was crossing the street in the Belmont Heights neighborhood on the northwest side in July. She was critically injured.
Mowry, a two-year veteran of the department, is stripped of his police powers, pending the investigation.
WGN received this statement from the victim's mother:
"While I am pleased that the correct charges have been filed in this case I am also saddened that now two families lives have been destroyed by someone who thought it was ok to drink and drive. Not just someone but a police officer who knows what the laws are. I pray for his family and the anguish they must be going through as well as for my daughter who may or may not make it through this."
