LAFAYETTE, La. -- The family of the man who shot and killed two people inside a movie theater in Louisiana once asked a court to have him involuntarily committed, and filed a temporary protective order.

59 year-old John Russel Houser opened-fire about 20 minutes into the comedy, "Trainwreck," Thursday night.

The two people killed were 33 year-old Jillian Johnson and 21 year-old Mayci Breaux. Nine others were wounded. Houser eventually took his own life.

Court documents from 2008 show he has a history of mental health issues.

President Obama was briefed aboard Air Force One while on his way to Africa for a two-nation visit.

He offered his prayers to the community of Lafayette, and to the families of those who were killed.
