A man is in custody this morning after police fired shots at him.

Officers answered calls for shots fired on West Grenshaw in Lawndale around 1 a.m. When they arrived, they saw a man holding a gun. The man fled, and police chased him. When he turned toward the police with the gun in hand, an officer fired shots. No one was hit, and the man was taken into custody in the alley of 3500 W. Grenshaw. Charges are pending.

Just moments earlier, someone was shot and killed on the same block. Officers say the 25-year old victim was standing outside when a light-colored van pulled up and someone inside shot the man in the arm and chest. He was transported to Mt. Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police say he was a documented gang member. A second victim who was grazed by a bullet in the back was also taken to Mt. Sinai and is in stable condition. No one is in custody for these shootings.

According to police, the officer-involved shooting and the shooting homicide are not related.
