Chicago area cooling centers

CHICAGO — A heat advisory is in effect Saturday for the Chicago area from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Temperatures will reach the mid-90s, and the heat index could hit 110 degrees.

The Chicago Department of Public Health is urging residents to drink lots of water and check on neighbors and elderly friends and family.

The city has dedicated several sites as cooling centers for citizens to escape the heat.

Cooling centers in Chicago open until 5 p.m.:

 

Englewood Center
1140 W. 79th Street
Chicago, IL 60621

Garfield Center
10 S. Kedzie Ave.
Chicago, IL 60612

King Center
4314 S. Cottage Grove
Chicago, IL 60653

North Area Center
845 W. Wilson Ave.
Chicago, IL 60640

South Chicago Center
8650 S. Commercial Ave.
Chicago, IL 60617

Trina Davila Center
4357 W. Armitage Ave.
Chicago, IL 60639

Additionally, the city of Chicago has extended hours at these cooling centers for residents across the city:

King Center

Open until 8 p.m.

Garfield Center

10 S. Kedzie

Chicago, IL 60612

Open 24 hours.

The city says additional  facilities such as libraries, police stations or other structures might be made available after hours as conditions warrant.
