A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for tonight into Thursday. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will spread into the Chicago area from the west this evening with heavier torrential-type thunderstorms expected later tonight.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to move east out of Iowa and northern Missouri through northern Illinois tonight – gradually ending from the west Thursday. Periodic training of storms – thunderstorms continually redeveloping and moving across the same area – is expected to begin this Wednesday evening continuing into the early morning hours Thursday with torrential rains over saturated soils and swollen or in-flood river and streams resulting in localized flash-flooding of viaducts, underpasses, creeks and susceptible roads – in some cases extending already extensive flooding problems. .
