Coal City donation, clean-up events tentatively scheduled this week

COAL CITY, Ill. — An event to help those in need in Coal City, Ill., following Monday night’s devastating tornadoes has been set up for Friday.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday, June 26 at the Diamond Banquet Hall in Diamond, Ill. (map).

Attendees are encouraged to wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Those in attendance will be given safety equipment and will be bussed to neighborhoods to help with Coal City cleanup.

Cleaning-type donations to help with Friday’s event are being encouraged and will be accepted before Friday at We Care of Grundy County (map).

Cash donations will also be accepted at Community Foundation Grundy County online at

Lost and found items discovered in yards, especially important documents, may be dropped off at the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce (map).
