Chicago outdoor summer workout guide
Part of enjoying a Chicago summer is finding new ways to exercise outside! Here’s a guide to some of the best outdoor fitness opportunities this summer.
Yoga at Lincoln Park Zoo – Both adult and parent/toddler classes are offered through September 13 at the Nature Boardwalk Peoples Gas Education Pavilion. $20 drop-in rate or get a pass for multiple classes.
Sun and Moon Beach Yoga – Vinyasa style yoga at North Avenue Beach. $15 for a single class or purchase a class pack.
Yoga by the Lake – Free classes Tuesdays & Sundays at Belmont Harbor offered by FCC Halsted Street.
Stand-Up Paddleboard fitness classes – Chicago SUP offers sunrise and sunset classes on Lake Michigan. Yoga, Pilates and CrossFit classes are done entirely on boards. $50 per class (includes board rental).
Kayak Spinning – Chicago Water Sport Rentals offers this unique workout in the 31st Street Harbor.
Fit Beach bootcamp – Work on strength, balance, flexibility and endurance at Ohio Street Beach. A four-week session costs $345.
Millennium Park free workouts – Every Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the Great Lawn. One-hour classes include tai chi, yoga, Pilates and Zumba.
Chicago SummerDance – Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. Take an hour-long dance lesson in Grant Park’s Spirit of Music Garden, then hit the floor with your new moves. Styles include swing, waltz, cha-cha and mambo. All for free!
Flying Trapeze Classes – Offered by TSNY Chicago in Belmont Harbor. $65 per class.
Crew Runs the World running club – Free guided runs from various locations. You have the option of taking a 3, 5 or 7 mile route.
