Blackhawks will raise their championship banner Oct. 7

CHICAGO – Blackhawks fans knew another banner raising celebration was coming in October. Now they have an exact date to mark on their calendars.

On Wednesday morning the Blackhawks announced that they will hold their home opener on Wednesday, October 7th at the United Center against the New York Rangers.

Game time is slated for 7 PM.

The rest of the 2015-2016 Blackhawks schedule will be announced Thursday morning at 9 AM.

Before the home openers in 2010 and 2013 in the October after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, the team would hold a pre-game ceremony in which a championship banner would be raised at the United Center. It will be the sixth Stanley Cup banner for the Blackhawks joining the 1934, 1938, 1961, 2010 and 2013 championship seasons.

The New York Islanders also announced that the Blackhawks will be┬átheir home opener on October 9th. It’s a significant moment for the Islanders who will play their first ever game in Brooklyn that night.
