CHICAGO -- Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy's community outreach program is now under way.  It was launched as a direct result of the outrage that took place in Ferguson, Mo. and Baltimore.

McCarthy spoke about his "listening tour" today during an appearance before the City Club of Chicago.

The program began several days ago.  McCarthy, his command staff and rank and file police officers are going out and listening to people in the community -- asking what they are doing wrong, and what they can do better.

On a smaller scale, McCarthy has begun offering Chicago residents a class to teach young men and women how to interact with police.  The idea is to improve communication and understanding, and he intends to make it department-wide.

McCarthy said the police department Ferguson, Mo. lacked transparency for years, and the outage and frustration had been building up.

He is a big fan of letting people know exactly what his department is doing. This is why, in part, he launched the body camera program. He said it will not solve problems entirely, but it should go a long way.

How about stop being such a butthead about concealed carry by legally permitted citizens? Allowing citizens to carry, or own to protect themselves, legally, and their property and family, with legal guns, will send a message to the obamasons and gangbangers that they are not wanted here, that legal residents will defend and protect their lives and what’s theirs.
