NEPTUNE ISLANDS, Australia – A terrifying photo of a great white shark, hovering just inches away from a photographer’s hands, has gone viral.
But the picture isn’t what it seems to be.
Australian filmmaker Dave Riggs said the 15-foot-long shark wasn’t being aggressive, it was just “curious” to find out who was on the boat and swam up to “take a sniff”.
Riggs said since sharks don’t have hands, they use their mouths to satisfy their curiosity.
He was filming material for a documentary when the shark swam up.
Dave Riggs posted the picture to his Facebook with the caption, “This is how a great white “sniffs” .. it looks frightening but this .. it really is .. the last dinosaur .. WE MUST PROTECT this magnificent creature!!!!”
