CHICAGO -- There is a small memorial in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood near the spot where a woman was shot and killed in front of her two small children. Charges are pending against her ex-boyfriend.
It happened Tuesday night near 72nd and Bennett.
WGN's Tonya Francisco talked to friends who said the suspect called family members to tell them he shot the mother of his two children.
The 28-year-old woman, identified as Mechelle Lewis, was sitting in a parked minivan with her children, when her former boyfriend came up to her and shot her, he
then took off in a car with her 8-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son, police say.
He drove to the 3rd District police station at 70th and Cottage Grove and was arrested.
The children weren't physically injured.
